Mitä tarkoittaa

Umbilicus on lääketieteellinen termi, joka viittaa napaan, eli kohtaan, jossa napanuora oli kiinnitetty sikiön vatsan keskelle raskauden aikana. Napanuora kuljettaa ravinteita ja happea äidiltä sikiölle ja poistaa sikiön aineenvaihduntatuotteita. Syntymän jälkeen napanuora katkaistaan, jättäen umbilicuksen, joka paranee ja muodostaa lopulta arpikudoksen. Umbilicus on tärkeä osa ihmisen anatomiaa ja sen kehitystä, ja se voi olla myös merkki eri terveysongelmista, mikäli se ei parane normaalisti.
