Mitä tarkoittaa

Kompassi on navigointilaite, joka käyttää maapallon magneettikenttää osoittaakseen pohjoisen suunnan. Se koostuu yleensä neulasta, joka on vapautettu pyörimään ja osoittaa kohti magneettista pohjoista. Kompassia on käytetty vuosisatojen ajan merenkulussa, vaelluksessa ja muissa navigointitarkoituksissa. Kompassin keksiminen mahdollisti tarkemman navigoinnin ja tutustumisen tuntemattomiin alueisiin. Nykyisin kompassia käytetään yhä paljon, vaikka GPS-teknologia on yleistynyt.
